CHAPTER TEN: UNMASKED

Conan, Zula and Borak set sail with Red Sonya on the Tigress for Doom’s castle.  Anchoring off shore, Conan uses a catapult to start lobbing the explosive filled bags at Doom’s tower.  After the first one hits, a door at the top of the tower opens and a strange flying machine emerges, flying straight for the ship.  Conan tries to hit it with the explosive but it is able to veer out of the way.  Once over the ship the flying machine drops an explosive of it’s own.  Everyone jumps overboard, as the Tigress explodes in a huge fire ball.

Conan, Sonya, Zula and Borak come to the surface anD swim to the shore.  They cautiously make their way back to Kull’s castle, where Conan calls kull, Zenobia and Thoth Amon to the throne room. Assembling them there with Re Sonya, Borak and Zula, Conan declares that this latest set back proves they have a spy in their midst.  He then asks them to recall the events that happened when he was first secretly sent to rescue Princess Valeria……..

Conan is waylaid on the road to Doom’s tower, spurring his horse on, Conan leads the other men on a furious chase across the country side.  Coming to a gorge, and with Doom’s men fast approaching, Conan tries to leap his horse across the chasm to the other side.  The horse barely lands on the other side but can’t get any traction and they fall off the edge into the deep ravine below.
There is a lake at the bottom of the ravine.  Conan and his horse land safely in the water.  Conan swims to the bottom and stays there for several minutes.   Doom’s men watch the water and when they don’t see Conan surface they assume is dead and ride away.

Then Conan reminds them of the time when Yora and Balthus somehow got into the castle……..

Conan is walking with Valeria.  It is obvious as they talk that the Princess is infatuated with Conan, and that Conan is starting to feel the same way.  Rounding a corner, they run into Yora and Balthus.  Conan immediately fights them, but is overpowered and knocked unconscious.

Yora grabs Valeria and says that Doom will be pleased to have her as a guest again.  Balthus tells him to go on with the Princess while he takes care of Conan.  After Yora drags the Princess away.  Balthus draws his sword and starts to bring it down toward Conan’s limp form.

Zula and Borak round a corner, arguing over who the princess’ handmaiden likes better when they see Balthus about to kill Conan.  Zula grabs Balthus’ sword arm, while Borak jumps on Balthus’ back.  Balthus struggles but is quickly subdued.

And finally, he brings up what later happened when Balthus was locked in the dungeon…….

Balthus is put in the dungeon.  Doom’s mysterious confederate releases Balthus and shows him where he can slip out of the castle.  Conan just happens look out a window and see Balthus getting away.  Leaping out out of the window on to a horse, he chases Balthus down and recaptures him.

Everyone agrees that Conan is right, Kull asks who it could be.  Sadly Conan points to Queen Zenobia and says that she is the only one of the group who had  the power the go to the dungeon and not be questioned or stopped.  Kull is outraged at the accusation. Conan asks him who convinced him to give into Kull’s demands when the Princess was first kidnapped.  Kull looks at Zenobia with dawning belief in what Conan has said.  Zenobia laughs wickedly, compliments Conan on his cleverness, then pulls a vial out of her belt.  She sneeringly tells them that it is poison and they are all going to die………
