Villain of the Month: Eddie Fetherstone
A prolific character actor who worked regularly for decades, Eddie Fetherstone got his start as a vaudeville comedian where made a seamless transition to film in the twenties in films like The Stolen Kiss (1920) and Old Ironsides (1926). With the coming of sound, Fetherstone became the go to guy when you needed a wisecracking reporter in films like Scarface (1932), Black Beauty (1933), The Lone Wolf Returns (1935) and Kid Galahad (1937). During this time he also made his first serial, playing Kane Richmond’s sidekick investigating the mysteries of The Lost City (1935).
The late thirties brought another role for Fetherstone. Starting with Flying G-Men (1939) Fetherstone became a regular henchman in Columbia’s serials, following it up with Mandrake the Magician (1939), The Shadow (1940), Terry and the Pirates (1940), Deadwood Dick (1940), The Green Archer (1940) and White Eagle (1941).
After that it was back to playing reporters in Dr. Broadway (1942), Boston Blackie and the Law (1946) and The Babe Ruth Story (1948).
