Villain of the Month: Hans Schumm

A German immigrant, Schumm worked steadily on stage with only occasional appearances in film, like Revolt of the Zombies (1936).  But with th approaching War, Schumm started working regularly as a villain in films like Hitler: Beast of Berlin (1939), All Through the Night (1941), Invisible Agent (1942), Sahara (1943) and Cloak and Dagger (1946).

His one serial was for Republic.  Playing The Mask, Schumm headed up sabotage efforts on American soil where he was fought by Kane Richmond’s comic book superhero hero Spy Smasher (1942).

As work slowed down after the War, Schumm  returned to Germany for the remainder of his career, appearing sporadically in American productions filmed over seas like The Bashful Elephant (1962) and Captain Sinbad (1963).
