Heroine of the Month: Virginia Browne Faire
Virginia Browne Faire had that kind of fairytale career beginning that is almost a Hollywood myth nowadays. She was discovered by winning Motion Picture Classic Magazine’s Fame and Fortune Contest and whisked off to Hollywood where she became a star. She starred in such hits as The Count of Monte Cristo (1922), Peter Pan (1924) and The Lost World (1925). Her sound debut was in Frank Capra’s The Donovan Affair (1929).
And then she suddenly went from making big budget A pictures to B westerns. Her filmography of the early thirties includes The Lonesome Trail (1930), Alias the Badman (1932) and West of the Divide (1934). She also made a serial, The Sign of the Wolf (1932) along with former silent stars Rex Lease and Joe Bonomo trying to keep a pair of chains that can create jewels out of sand from falling into the hands of outlaws.
After a supporting role in the film Tracy Rides (1935), Faire retired from acting.
