Just Released

A quick blog on two new releases that are coming out today on DVD. Alpha Video is re-releasing Zorro’s Fighting Legion, now with all twelve chapters on one disc. I don’t know about you, but if you are like me and trying to keep your collection from taking up too much space, switching out a serial that was on two discs for one disc is a good move. VCI is releasing a DVD version of Jungle Queen starring Ruth Roman. I have the VHS version myself and was not too impressed with the serial as a whole, so it is doubtful I’ll be replacing it with a DVD copy, spacing issues not withstanding.
I don’t understand. If you keep your DVDs in their original cases, the case size is the same for one- and two-DVD cases. If you take them out of the case and store them in some media file, the saving is something like an eighth of an inch! Given that the Alpha one-DVD version of ZFL is unlikely to be an improvement over anyone else’s two-DVD version, why would you go the the trouble and expense?
We all have out eccentricities. But I’ll put it this way, Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe comes on two discs in two separate cases from Alpha. Image has a release that comes complete in one case. That takes up half the room on my shelf than the other version would and is one less item to pack up if I I move, so regardless of price that is the version I would get.
