Next Greatest Serial Never Made

Well this Sunday is the last episode of my first Greatest Serial Never Made, Dracula Returns, which means I’m going to have to get started on the next one.  I already have the title picked out, now it just have to get around to picking a studio to emulate, creating a history of the production, casting with the right actors for the time period, and actually writing it. I’m not sure if I want to continue doing it as pages or just make it a regular part of the blog postings.  If any of you have a preference let me know.  I will hopefully have the next one up and running one episode a week by either the end of April or the beginning of May.

What the…?

In an event as surreal as anything that happens in the film being discussed, The New York Times reviewed the DVD release of Phantom Empire, yes The New York Times, and what’s more it’s a favorable review of not only the DVD but of the serial itself, commenting on how everyone’s complete conviction in the proceedings keeps the film from becoming silly.  All I can say is “What the…?”  Man, how times have changed, could you even imagine Captain Video or The Last Frontier getting reviewed by such a pretigious paper back when they were released on DVD?  Me neither.  If you want to see the article it’s at:

Just Released

A quick blog on two new releases that are coming out today on DVD.  Alpha Video is re-releasing Zorro’s Fighting Legion, now with all twelve chapters on one disc.  I don’t know about you, but if you are like me and trying to keep your collection from taking up too much space, switching out a serial that was on two discs for one disc is a good move.  VCI is releasing a DVD version of Jungle Queen starring Ruth Roman.  I have the VHS version myself and was not too impressed with the serial as a whole, so it is doubtful I’ll be replacing it with a DVD copy, spacing issues not withstanding.
