Where’s the Bijou?

I was ecstatic when I first hear that Matinee at the Bijou was going to be returning to PBS.  I remember watching it back in the eighties on Sunday afternoon.  It was where I first saw  the serials Zorro’s Fighting Legion (1939) and Phantom Empire (1935), as well as such great films as The Vampire Bat (1933), Gene Autry’s The Big Show (1937), and Buster Keaton’s Parlor, Bedroom & Bath (1931).  I loved it, while my parents would just shake their heads whenever they caught me watching it.

So it was big news to me when I found out that it was returning to TV with Debbie Reynolds as the host and listing all the great cartoons, comedy shorts, serials, and feature films that would coming up during the first season. I couldn’t wait.

But that’s exactly what I’ve been doing.  Waiting….and waiting….and waiting.  I visit the web site and all it says is coming soon, but in the mean time here are some articles about the old show and some ITune clips. Which is all very good, but when’s the show coming out?  It’s been over a year since the announcement so it can’t be the writer’s strike.  Are they having trouble getting a sponser for the show?  Is PBS having trouble finding a place for it on their schedules?  What is the hold up?  Where’s the Bijou?
